Your Insurance Company May Recommend a Shop. You Still Choose Who Works on Your Vehicle.
You have the right to choose the auto glass company that performs the work. Your insurance company or claims administrator may recommend a provider, but a recommendation is not the same as a requirement. If you want Auto Glass Works, just say so, and we’ll help you make that choice clear during the claim.
How Glass Coverage Works
Windshield and glass damage is usually handled under the comprehensive portion of an auto policy, the optional coverage that pays for non-collision damage like road debris, hail, or vandalism. Most comprehensive claims involve a deductible, and some insurers offer optional glass coverage with a lower or no deductible. If a collision caused the damage, the claim may run through collision coverage instead.
Â
In plain English: your deductible is your slice of the bill, and insurance covers the rest of what it authorizes. If the job costs less than your deductible, a claim may not make sense, and we’ll tell you that straight so you don’t file one for nothing.
Â
Every policy is different, so coverage, deductibles, and glass options depend on your specific policy and insurer. We’ll help you figure out what questions to ask.
Choosing Your Glass Company in Missouri and Kansas
Kansas law protects your right to choose the glass company you want. Your insurer may provide a list or recommend a provider, but it cannot require you to use a particular glass shop.
Â
In Missouri, you do not have to automatically accept the company recommended during the claim call. Tell the insurer or claims administrator that you have chosen Auto Glass Works, and we will help you communicate that choice and work through the authorization process.
Â
Some insurers use third-party glass claims administrators. During that call, you may hear a recommended provider or appointment option. You can still state that you have selected Auto Glass Works, and we will help guide you through the process.
How the Claim Works With Auto Glass Works
- Call us first. Call or text 816-286-3921, or use the Get a Quote form. We’ll look at your vehicle and your glass, and help you decide whether a claim even makes sense.
- Call your insurance company’s claims line. Your insurer may route the call to a glass claims administrator. That’s normal.
- Name your shop. If the claims representative recommends another company, simply tell them you have already chosen Auto Glass Works. We can stay on the call with you and help make sure the claim is set up with the shop you selected.
- Authorization and scheduling. Once the claim is set up, we schedule your mobile service and complete the work, including calibration when your vehicle requires it.
- Payment. Depending on your insurer and how the claim is set up, we can bill through the claim, or you can pay us directly and be reimbursed by your insurer. We’ll explain the available options before any work happens. You’re responsible for any applicable deductible and any amount your insurer doesn’t authorize or cover.

What You'll Actually Pay
If your claim is approved, you’re typically responsible for your deductible, collected like any other payment when the work is done. Some insurers waive the deductible when a chip can be repaired instead of replaced, and some policies include glass coverage with a lower or no deductible, but that depends entirely on your policy. If part of the work isn’t authorized, or coverage is denied, we’ll give you a straight direct-pay quote and explain exactly what’s covered and what isn’t, and you decide what to authorize. No surprises.
Glass Options and Calibration in a Claim
Claims normally proceed with an approved aftermarket glass option unless OEM glass is specifically authorized by the insurer. If you want OEM glass and the insurer doesn’t approve the full OEM cost, you may have the option to pay the difference. We’ll talk through the glass choices available for your vehicle and your claim before anything is ordered.
When calibration is required, it may be included as part of an eligible glass claim, subject to the policy, insurer, authorization, and claim circumstances. Learn more about ADAS calibration.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can Auto Glass Works help me with the claim?
Yes. Call us first and we’ll help you understand the process, and we can stay on the phone with you and your insurer to help set the claim up with the shop you chose.
Do I call my insurer first, or you first?
Call us first. We’ll help you decide whether a claim makes sense and get you ready for the claims call.
What happens on the three-way call?
You call your insurer’s claims line, which may route to a glass claims administrator. We can stay on the line, help you state that you’ve chosen Auto Glass Works, and help answer vehicle and glass questions so the claim gets set up correctly.
Can I choose Auto Glass Works even if my insurer recommends another company?
Yes. A recommendation is not a requirement. In Kansas, state law specifically protects your right to choose your glass company (K.S.A. 40-2,155). In Missouri, you don’t have to automatically accept the recommended provider. Just tell them you’ve chosen Auto Glass Works.
What is a deductible?
The portion of the claim you pay yourself. Insurance covers the rest of what it authorizes. If the repair costs less than your deductible, filing may not make sense, and we’ll tell you.
Will I have to pay anything?
Usually your deductible, plus anything your insurer doesn’t authorize or cover. Some insurers waive the deductible for chip repairs, and some policies carry glass coverage with a lower or no deductible. It depends on your policy.
Does insurance cover calibration?
When calibration is required, it may be included in an eligible glass claim, subject to your policy, insurer, and authorization. We’ll help you ask the right questions.
Does insurance cover OEM glass?
Claims normally proceed with an approved aftermarket option unless OEM is specifically authorized. If you want OEM and it isn’t fully approved, you may be able to pay the difference. We’ll walk you through the options.
What should I have ready?
Your insurance card or policy number, your VIN, a photo of the damage, how it happened, and your vehicle’s year, make, and model.
What happens after the claim is approved?
We schedule your mobile service, complete the work including any required calibration, and payment follows the claim setup, either billed through the claim or paid directly with insurer reimbursement, whichever applies.
What if coverage is denied?
You’ll get a straight direct-pay quote and an honest explanation of what wasn’t covered. You decide what to authorize, no pressure.
